BANFF WORLD TELEVISION FESTIVAL APPOINTS PETER VAMOS AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Toronto, Canada - December 4, 2008 - Robert Montgomery, CEO of the Banff World Television Festival, is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Vamos as Executive Director of the Festival. Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, the Banff World Television Festival is the world's foremost forum dedicated to content creation, development and production.
Vamos joins BANFF from his position as publisher of Playback Magazine, the leading business journal devoted to Canada's film and television industry, where he oversaw all Playback related business initiatives including publications, events and online ventures. In his nine years at Playback, Vamos helped solidify the magazine's position as the leading voice of the Canadian broadcast and production sectors
Vamos has participated in several international film and TV festivals and, through Playback\'s parent company Brunico Communications, has been involved in such respected international conferences as the Realscreen Summit and the KidScreen Summit.
Vamos started his career as a journalist and spent over a decade covering the entertainment industry as a movie reviewer, entertainment reporter, business writer and editor. Prior to joining Playback, Vamos was part of the team that launched Canoe.ca in 1996 and Foxnews.com in 1997. He also helped produce several acclaimed documentaries including Emmy-winner Plague Monkeys.
Vamos will report to Robert Montgomery, who is also CEO of Achilles Media, which operates the Festival on behalf of the Banff World Television Festival Foundation.
\\"After an exhaustive search, we are thrilled to have a leader for the Festival who truly loves television and eats, sleeps and breathes the industry\'s fortunes,\\" said Robert Montgomery. \\"Vamos is well-known to many in both the international and domestic television industries as a key interpreter and facilitator. Given Banff's critical role in turning ideas and relationships into profitable content, Vamos has the right experience to lead this important institution through a period of great change and promise for content creators.'
"This is an incredibly exciting time to be stepping in to lead this great festival,\" said Vamos. \"As the international media business goes through a seismic shift and producers and broadcasters try to navigate perilous economic times, Banff becomes even more important as a forum to provide crucial business insight and a place to solidify vital partnerships.\"
The 2009 Banff World Television Festival will take place June 7-10, 2009 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Conference Centre in the Canadian Rockies. Television professionals from around the world will partake in provocative seminars, inspiring Master Classes, unique pitching opportunities and more.
